1. Right Platform
It has been suggested that Neville should continue his development and education in the lower leagues, but that would be the worst decision he could make. His preferred route would not have been to start his managerial career at Valencia but he was put in a position where he could not say no. He is now in a position where he cannot afford to slip too far down the ladder because where does he go if his next role doesn't work out? Moving to Villa Park would put him at risk of becoming 'Tim Sherwood: Version 2:0', but he could not ask for a better platform to work at than Aston Villa. He was reportedly considered for the Fulham job before Valencia nipped in to secure his services, and although that role could become available again in the summer, Fulham are unlikely to be challenging for promotion next year. With the right man, Villa could be. Whoever replaces Garde is taking a calculated risk, but Neville would relish the opportunity to take over Villa. He would also likely be put under minimal pressure by David Bernstein and Adrian Bevington, who he will be familiar with given their previous roles with the Football Association.
