Aston Villa Next Manager: 8 Reasons Why Gary Neville Could Transform The Club

2. Knowledge Of English Game

When Garde replaced Sherwood, there was not much concern regarding the Frenchman's lack of coaching experience in England because of his time with Arsenal during his playing career. However, that came between 1996 and 1999 and times have changed since he spent three years on the bench at Highbury. In all fairness, he probably ear-wigged so many conversations sitting behind Arsene Wenger that Villa could be forgiven for thinking that they were appointing someone with vast knowledge of the English game, but it soon turned out that wasn't the case. Garde is not the only man responsible for Villa's demise, but he has been made accountable and Villa must take the opportunity to go with someone who knows the English game inside out. Neville may have never managed a team in England, but he made over 600 appearances for Manchester United, represented England on 85 occasions and now features on Roy Hodgson's backroom staff. He has spent almost a quarter of a century either playing or coaching at the highest level so he knows what he is talking about.
