CM - Daniele De Rossi (Italy)
This 28 year old Roman gladiator had an exceptional campaign whether it was playing in the heart of defence in Italy's opening games or when he was moved to his preferred position as the midfield destroyer. He excelled in both roles and staked his claim to this team with his exceptional tenacity. Every great team needs a Daniele De Rossi. Someone who will work tirelessly for the cause, who doesn't mind breaking up the play and doing the dirty work in midfield. That's not to say he can't play a bit because he can and he was desperately unlucky not to score what would have been the goal of the tournament when his 30 yard volley cracked of the post with Joe Hart well beaten. I could have went with Busquets, Hübschman or Raul Meireles but for me it had to be De Rossi.
