Another player on the list that Martinez had during his years at Wigan Athletic. McCarthy was brought to English football from Hamilton Academicals by Martinez back in summer of 2009. And he was probably one of Martinez's best acquisitions during his tenure as McCarthy impressed with his performance at the heart of the latics midfield, even earning him a call up for Republic of Ireland. Having dubbed Martinez as 'a tactical genius' following Wigan's FA Cup triumph, I think McCarthy would jump at the chance of working with the manager. He has been much tipped to follow Arouna Koné, Joel Robles and Antolin Alcaraz as Martinez assembles the best of last season's relegated Wigan side on Merseyside. You do get the feeling that McCarthy will be Martinez's preference to replace Fellaini, the question is how much will Wigan want for the promising Irishmen. However with the likelihood that Everton will receive a high amount for Fellaini, it seems that price might not be a stumbling block.
