Ex-Newcastle Flop Albert Luque Fires Warning To Incoming Ayoze Perez

There are just a few T's to cross and I's to dot before we officially present Ayoze Perez as a Newcastle player but the Tenerife striker has received a stark warning about the perils of joining the Club. Ex-Magpie flop Albert Luque, speaking to several Spanish news outlets, believes Perez is taking a huge risk by agreeing to a reported five-year contract with the Magpies ahead of an easier, albeit less lucrative, move to Porto. €œThe two years I spent there were the two worst on a personal level,€ he said to Teide Radio.

€œNewcastle is a great club but if I could go back it is an experience that I would not repeat. The step that Ayoze has taken shows tremendous courage on his part, but it€™s going to be a challenging move.

€œThe contract that he has got will have delighted him but it is a difficult place to go. All three of the Spanish players who have gone there were warned that it was a difficult move and none of the Spaniards were a success.

€œIt will not be easy and he will have to do it himself. He will be alone there without any help. It will be tough for him and maybe Porto would have been a better option for him.€

It's been nine years since we signed Luque from Deportivo for £9 million and we concur with his thinking that Perez will initially struggle to adapt to life in England and the rigours of Premier League football.

However, the 20-year-old has the luxury of time on his side to acclimatise, unlike Luque who was 27 when he joined the Magpies, and we're confident he will prove to be an excellent acquisition in the long-term.
