FIFA Team Of The Year: 11 Overlooked Players Who Deserved Inclusion
2. Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich & Netherlands)
In his time at both Chelsea and Real Madrid, Arjen Robben often proved a frustrating presence. Indisputably talented, Robben's arrogance, selfishness with the ball and inability to see beyond his own part of the game meant that he was far from a team player. At the current best team in the world, however, Robben seems to have found more of a place for his talents. His link up play with Lahm and fast paced incisive runs, cutting in from the right wing onto his left foot to release a powerful shot, have been key in Bayern's rise to the top of world football. In the Champions League Final it was Robben that made the difference between the two teams. Robben's assist for Mario Mandzukic gave Bayern the lead and then it was his impressive winning goal in the 89th minute that won them the day. After the game Robben picked up a well deserved Man of the Match award. As the star of the year's biggest game, Robben is well qualified for a place in any Team of the Year. Meanwhile, if anything, this season has seen the Dutch winger step his performance up another level under new manager Pep Guardiola. Already in just 19 games in all competitions Robben has banged in 13 goals, his total for all of last season.
