The Small Picture
This weekend saw a nice little rush of interest in the rookie drivers with lower teams. Thanks to the rain in qualifying, it gave a chance for the smaller teams to sneak through and not just steal from the big table, but dance across it as well. Caught out by the rain, Torro Rosso dropped out in Q1, along with both Williams cars. Caterham and Marussia capitalised with a gamble on slick tyres, getting a Caterham into 14th place and both Marussia cars into Q2 for the first time ever. Though the race didn't pan out so successfully for them, they provided us some interesting racing throughout a somewhat quiet Belgian Grand Prix, with the Williams of Maldonado and the Sauber of Gutierrez racing hard with Force India, culminating in a spectacular collision, and then a tough battle of Caterham vs. Williams to the flag. It reminds us that the best action is not necessarily to be found at the sharp end.
