From Behind the Glasses
Overall, Spa generally failed to deliver this year. A fantastic classic circuit that has so often spoilt us will always build expectation, and unfortunately this year there was little to stimulate us. Qualifying was exciting, with the rain coming and going in Q3 to leave a desperate race for the line that saw me punch the air as Hamilton nabbed it at the death, but sadly the race was dry and clear, with nothing to shake up the order in the top ten. For me, Vettel proved yet again he can only win one way, with a superior car and by scampering off at the start, preventing him having to race anybody. Despite the hard work of fantastic Fernando, it feels like this championship is sleepwalking to a close with little hope for much else coming. Of course we all know anything can happen in this sport, but it just feels like we'll find ourselves in Brazil with the same final result of the last three years, with the title having been decided for a couple of races. Sadly it looks like the changes to the Pirelli tyres have done exactly what Paul Hembery had said that it would, handing advantage to Red Bull and stripping it from teams that had genuinely succeeded with them like Ferrari, Lotus and Force India. Whilst the focus is no longer on Pirelli, there's no denying the tyres are still too big a factor in Formula 1, preventing real racing and the drivers pushing furiously as they might in Sports car racing.
