How José Mourinho Is Killing Manchester United

1. Stopping Player Progression

Who has José Mourinho improved during his time at Manchester United? No one. Which promising players has he made worse? Shaw, Rashford, Martial, Pogba, and the list goes on.

Although Luke Shaw (before this season) and Paul Pogba are the most obvious candidates for who Mourinho has sucked all the talent away from, Anthony Martial and Andreas Pereira are the biggest victims of the ‘special one’s’ negative and outdated tactics.

The media, pundits, and ex-managers who empathise with Mourinho’s long-ball and anti-football tactics have forgotten, but Martial was consistently player of the month before he was needlessly benched by a Chilean dud whose only talents include playing the piano, dressing up his dogs, and running like a headless chicken.

Pereira, meanwhile, was a star on loan at Valencia, and he was easily United’s best player during the calamitous US tour. Yet, for being an exciting player who can look up, pass the ball forward, and do some quick skills with his feet, he’s not even on the bench while Fellaini is a prominent starter.

Louis Van Gaal received a lot of deserved criticism during his United stint, but he did try to build for the future by buying Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw, while promoting Rashford to the starting 11 and having him spearhead the attack. Mourinho has done nothing except buy 30-year-olds and stop his young players from progressing.
