Even though this proved to be a fixture with little relevance come the end of the 2013/14 season, it was a victory which left the holy grail of The Premier League title briefly in Liverpool’s hands - and this was a glorious moment in itself, regardless of what came next.

Gerrard’s game, for most of his career, has been built on channeling his emotion into practice, delivering superhuman performances to rescue Liverpool on a regular basis.

Yet at the end of this game, Gerrard’s emotions got the better of him as he burst into tears amidst the unfortunately worded “This does not f—ing slip” battle cry.

It showed precisely how much Liverpool Football Club means to him.

After a dismal showing this season, it could be argued that this match marked Gerrard’s final ‘glory moment’ in the colours of Liverpool. You only had to witness the post-match interview to see how much the victory meant to him.

“It was emotional, very emotional” he stated after the game, holding back the tears. “That was the longest 90 minutes i’ve ever played in. It felt like the clock was going backwards in some parts of the game. I’m a little bit lost for words at the moment because that is such a big result for us.”
