Liverpool Transfers: 5 Major Signings Brendan Rodgers Could Still Make

5. Fabio Coentrao

With Jose Enrique out indefinitely with a knee injury and Aly Cissokho failing to impress following his loan move from Valencia, Liverpool need a new left-back. Brendan Rodgers is particularly light in this area and may look to strengthen by reigniting his interest in Real Madrid's out-of-favour fullback Fabio Coentrao. Coentrao, also a target for Premier League rivals Manchester United, is way down the pecking order at the Bernabeu having made just four La Liga appearances this season. Real are unlikely to block any potential exit for the Portugal international as he is deemed surplus to requirements, with Marcelo preferred by manager Carlo Ancelotti. And the versatile defender could seriously improve the Reds, as he can play in a variety of areas such as left-wing and defensive midfield, lending Rodgers a variety of options. Rodgers was first linked with a move for Coentrao last month with the Madrid man thought to be one of his primary targets this January, and he may yet make a bid to wreck United's hopes.
