4. For England's Sake
The England team are in transition at the minute, and unfortunately for a team that once boasted a front-line of Shearer and Sheringham, and which has in the past had the luxury to leave strikers like Andy Cole, Ian Wright and Les Ferdinand largely in the cold, the striking options are limited these days. Wayne Rooney might have it in him to be one of the best players in the world, and Danny Wellbeck could go on to become a great at Man United (even if he still feels like a stop-gap for Fergie), but we're hardly talking a world class pool of talent to pick from. Too many of the biggest teams in the league (aside from Man United) are lead by foreign strikers, and as their nations profit from their strikers playing in the Premier League every week, England suffers. Having Darren Bent playing regularly in an upwardly mobile team that plays a system he could profit from, as well as scoring goals and brimming with confidence is exactly what England needs. And as the striker hits what could be his last, best years as a top level striker, to have him firing on all cylinders ahead of the next big competitions would be a massive boost for a country that seems to be going backwards in striking terms.
