6. Ryan Shawcross
I've lost count of the amount times that someone has said that Liverpool needed more grit and fire this season. The manager has said it, the players have said it, the pundits have... you get the message. If you want grit, aggression and fire then Ryan Shawcross is certainly a man you should consider. He ticks quite a few boxes for Liverpool. Firstly, as I've already mentioned he's extremely aggressive, both on the pitch and in air. Secondly, he's Premier League ready and shouldn't need too long to fit in. Thirdly, he fits FSG's recruitment policy of buying young and potentially reselling for a higher fee (he's still just 25). It must be said I'm not a big fan of Shawcross personally - especially after Ramsey-gate. But I acknowledge he has a certain set of skills that make him a formidable opponent. If I was playing in the Premier League, I wouldn't enjoy my 180 minutes with Shawcross. Another great point in Shawcross' favour is his availability. He's played 36, 36 and 37 League games in the last three seasons which is very impressive and this kind of injury free run breeds consistency and helps to keep a player settled with the rest of his back line - this is one of the reasons explaining why Liverpool fans are only just starting to see the real Daniel Agger. Is BR's type of player? I'm not sure, but I'd certainly consider him. Will his price be stupidly inflated because he's English? Probably.
