Man Utd: 10 Incredible Stats You Won’t Believe From The Moyes Era

8. United Would Have Been Joint-Top In November With Fergie In Charge

As Manchester United fans gaze wistfully at the current Premier League table, seeing Arsenal ten points above them at the top of the league conjures up feelings of "what if" - would the table tell the same story if Sir Alex Ferguson stayed on as manager for just another year? Statistics show that, by early November, going into their clash with Fulham, United would have been joint-top with Arsenal with Fergie in charge, kept off the summit by goal difference alone. That's based on Moyes and Ferguson's record against Swansea, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, West Brom, Sunderland, Southampton, Stoke and a promoted side - Crystal Palace under Moyes, West Ham under Ferguson - this season and last. Moyes only won four of those nine fixtures, losing to Liverpool, Man City and West Brom and drawing with Southampton, while last season Ferguson took maximum points from all four games. From those first nine games of the season, Moyes took 14 points this term while Ferguson took 22, which would have made the title race look very different right now.
