Man Utd: 5 More Cuneyt Cakir Red Card Incidents

2. Steven Gerrard: England v Ukraine, 2012

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiLyF2Rcey0 After enraging Sir Alex Ferguson and his players last night, Cakir would similarly irk England manager Roy Hodgson in 2012 after he sent off Steven Gerrard for a second bookable offence during the Three Lion's draw with the Ukraine. Cakir also disallowed a Jermain Defoe goal in that game before reducing England to ten men at the death following Gerrard's late tackle on Denys Garmash shortly before full time. €œSteven Gerrard is extremely unlucky to be sent off,€ remarked Hodgson at the time.
€œThe two fouls he was adjudged to have committed weren€™t worthy of cards. I thought all the yellow cards were very harsh. I don€™t think there were a lot of bad fouls, or fouls full stop. So I€™m going to say there were far too many cards for the fouls committed.€
Cakir was already an infamous figure among England fans having previously dismissed John Terry during Chelsea€™s Champions League semi-final against Barcelona, and Hodgson made a beeline for him at full time complaining about his decision to disallow Jermain Defoe€™s first-half goal. Defoe was adjudged to have caught midfielder Andriy Yarmolenko in the throat prior to shooting, but replays later proved contact was minimal at most.
