Man Utd: 5 Reasons Why They Won't Finish In The Top Four

2. The Most Dreadful Midfield In Years

Of course, it doesn't exactly help matters when your midfield is the worst it has been in years. There are problems in every area of the pitch at United, from defence right through to attack, but their midfield is particularly atrocious. Tom Cleverley would struggle to break into any other Premier League side, and it's amazing he's playing as often as he is, while Marouane Fellaini is looking increasingly more like a panic buy. In the wide areas you have Ashley Young, who has been one of United's worst players all season, Nani, who is equally as frustrating and Antonio Valencia, who hasn't been the same player since breaking his leg in 2010. Even trusted players like Michael Carrick are on the slide, and you have to wonder how much longer the 32-year-old has left at the highest levels, while the aforementioned Giggs cannot be relied upon forever, either. There's a frightening lack of width at United at present, with this side not playing with the same pace and tempo as their predecessors, and there's virtually no creative spark. United may arguably have the best forward line in the Premier League in Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, but that counts for nothing when they're not getting decent service.
