Another example of possible mismanagement from Van Gaal, is that of the saga involving Rivaldo during the Dutchman's tenure at Barcelona. Despite enjoying success with Brazil at the 2002 World Cup, Rivaldo was to come back down to Earth with a bump, upon hearing the news of ex-coach Van Gaal returning to Camp Nou for his second stint in charge - a superior which the Brazilian didn't quite see eye-to-eye with. At first, Rivaldo appeared to be able to put his differences aside, announcing that he would be prepared to play wherever Van Gaal asked him to, even in goal. A strange and possibly facetious comment, given how the Brazilian had previously made his disdain public when the Dutchman fielded him on the left-hand side rather than centrally. When making his way from Camp Nou due to what the club director labelled a 'technical decision', Rivaldo had something rather profound to say on television in his native country. "Van Gaal is the main cause of my departure. I don't like Van Gaal and I am sure that he doesn't like me, either."
