McClaren Reveals Newcastle Are Still "Searching" For Further Summer Signings

The Magpies are not done in the transfer market just yet.

Steve McClaren has admitted that there is "still a long way to go" before he has finished shaping his Newcastle United squad - and has revealed that the Magpies are still "searching" for further signings this summer. With four recruits already through the door this summer, the Magpies have started to strengthen and McClaren claims he is "happy" with his current crop of players, but does want to add to his squad in the coming weeks. An opening-day 2-2 draw against Southampton brought with it plenty of positives in an attacking sense for the Magpies, even if McClaren's men were once again worryingly susceptible defensively in the air.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Newcastle's trip to the Liberty Stadium to face Swansea City on Saturday (3pm kick-off), McClaren said:
"We're still searching for more signings but I'm happy with what we have at the club. "Things will (still) happen in the window (in terms of incomings). "There's still a long way to go in terms of the squad, but we are getting towards what we want to move forward with. "It was good to get that first game (against Southampton) out of the way - we did okay, played nice football and our attitude was excellent."
Interestingly McClaren also praised Swansea and their boss Garry Monk - as well as Gabriel Obertan. The French winger covered back well against Saints and provided a magnificent half-volleyed cross for Georginio Wijnaldum's debut goal. And McClaren continued:
"When I see Gabby Obertan in training and some games he's a terrific talent - he's so quick and so strong. "Swansea have been the perfect model for lower-league clubs - coming up through (the divisions) to establish themselves in the Premier League. "I'm a big admirer of Swansea's style. Garry Monk has done a fantastic job, coming straight from being a player."
