Newcastle: 10 Things Pardew Should Be Applauded For

10. He Won The Manager Of The Year Award

In the 2011-12 season, everything went right for Pardew. OK, not everything, but he won an award: manager of the year. A fifth place finish (more of which later, because the two deserve separate mention) represented a significant achievement for the club, and that was at least partially down to Pardew€™s policies and purchases. Although there's a lot to be said for Roberto Martinez€™s recent questioning of the game's obsession with dishing out individual awards in a team game, credit where credit€™s due: Pardew got a Newcastle team to punch well above its weight that season, and fully deserved the accolade. No other Newcastle manager has ever won the award, and Harry Redknapp is the only other English manager to win it, so that€™s one in the tick column.
