Newcastle 2014-15 Season Review - 6 Best (And 6 Worst) NUFC Performances

2. Manchester City 5-0 Newcastle United (Premier League - February 21st, 2015)

"We are not going to park the bus (at Manchester City)" - that's what interim head coach John Carver had said before the game. Well, he was certainly right there, wasn't he? Not only did Newcastle fail to park the proverbial bus, they made sure to move it out of the way and allow the Citizens to drive straight through the middle of them and towards their goal unopposed. Carver's declaration that Newcastle would not "park the bus" against Man City looked ridiculous when they conceded a penalty inside 40 seconds, and were 3-0 down within 21 minutes. Vurnon Anita failed to control a routine pass from Mike Williamson almost straight from kick-off, and then fouled the on-rushing Sergio Aguero - who scored the resulting spot-kick before two minutes were even up. Samir Nasri then converted Edin Dzeko's cross on 12 minutes, and then the Bosnian striker added the third himself with a wonderful finish from a David Silva lofted through ball. Silva then got himself a brace inside the first eight minutes of the second-half - and the eventual 5-0 scoreline had, for a long time, looked like being eight, nine or 10. To be fair on Carver, his side certainly didn't park any buses... but he had himself scored a monumental own goal by saying that before the game. Yes Newcastle were at the home of the Champions, who wanted revenge for the Capital One Cup defeat inflicted on them earlier in the season by the Magpies, but this display was downright pathetic.
