Newcastle United: 6 Reasons Why Demba Ba Will Leave

3. Newcastle Secretly Want Ba To Leave - Age

The next few points on this list are from Newcastle United's point of view as we secretly believe that the club actually wants Ba to leave this summer. According to a recent article in The Telegraph, Newcastle weren't interested in offering Ba a new contract that would increase his £50,000 per week contract and keep him at St. James' Park for a few more seasons. One reason we believe that United won't offer Ba a new contract is over his age. Mike Ashley's recent policy at Newcastle United has been to farm out players to other clubs before they hit a decline through in their form from age, i.e. - letting them go just as their peak years are running out. Ashley was happy to let Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton, who had been in great form the previous season, to leave the club despite both being 29-years-old. When Ba's current contract at Newcastle runs out he will also be 29-years-old. Mike Ashley has no interest in having Ba at the club in his early 30's, which a contract extension could enforce, and would far rather get some significant money for the player than be in a situation where players like Alan Smith and Michael Owen have left the club with no re-sale value, taking home high wages in their last few seaons.
