Newcastle United Unveil 2014/15 Home Shirt

It's black and white. Obviously.

Whoever said you can't mess too much with black and white stripes is obviously not a Newcastle fan. Every season it seems that August rolls in with rumours that this might be the year when the club release a simple, classic design with no frills and no silly design additions, and almost every year, fans are left scratching their heads. This year is no different, as early leaked designs - which have now been confirmed - featured what could only be described as a black nun's guimpe over the iconic black and white stripes. Some fans reacted badly - as ever - while others were less comically disgusted. Now that the shirt has been confirmed, with its big black triangle modelled with some attitude by Riviere, Elliot, Cabella, De Jong and Jack Colback (who clearly didn't get the memo about looking all cool) the reactions have been inevitable... https://twitter.com/KMdhc/status/497291513823776769 And while it's fair enough to criticise the issue with the stripes, inevitably, some fans have just taken to bashing the Wonga logo that has caused so much concern in the past couple of years, which serves very little purpose, and ignores the long and inauspicious history of beer brands and banks - who remember also profit from misery - sponsoring NUFC tops... https://twitter.com/rossgregory9/status/497296167169175553 The new 'keeper shirt - clearly of the old school that a distracting design is good for putting off strikers - was equally as divisive, though there is some charm in the geometric shapes, and the colour is a nice touch. And let's just hope that there's no reason behind Elliot and not Krul modelling it. Perhaps Tim was off modelling for FIFA that day, since he's in the new trailer for EA Sport's newest addition to the mega-selling football game? Or maybe it's because The Dilsh is just so much more classically handsome. Let's hope it's that, and not that he's off to Bayern Munich. The inspiration for the 'keeper shirt has already been hotly debated: https://twitter.com/wernders/status/497298620186902529 https://twitter.com/Adam_NUFC98/status/497291276283564033 While others have just flat out announced their hatred.... https://twitter.com/Adam_NUFC98/status/497291276283564033 The new shirts will go on sale from Thursday 14th August, and are available for pre-order now.
