The former Plymouth youngster moved to Everton touted as a future English superstar but injuries hampered his development at Goodison Park. Once Newcastle secured their promotion back to the Premier League, they approached Gosling - who became available on a free despite being under 24 because Everton had only offered him a new contract verbally, and not on paper.

Injuries once again affected him and his time on Tyneside brought just 24 appearances, and he couldn't break into the side ahead of James Perch, Vurnon Anita or Gael Bigirimana before he was allowed to leave for AFC Bournemouth on a free transfer in 2014...
