NFL: 5 Pre-season Position Battles To Keep An Eye On
-->
4. New York Jets Starting Quarterback
When Geno Smith fell to the New York Jets in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Woody Johnson and company jumped on the opportunity to get the heralded quarterback. With Mark Sanchez seemingly getting worse and worse every season since his rookie year, the Jets know they cannot depend on the man formerly nicknamed the Sanchize. However, dont count Sanchez out just yet. Just last season, Sanchez signed a hefty new contract, and the Jets still owe him a lot of guaranteed money for this season. On top of this, Sanchez knows the system, and though hes had some harsh moments, hes also the man who led the Jets to two back-to-back AFC Championship games, with both of those coming in his first two seasons in the league.
Rex Ryan is still the head coach of this team, and hes the man who picked Sanchez to begin with. Smith still has to get accustomed to football at the professional level, though, and theres no telling how quickly hell pick it up. Training camp will be crucial for these two Jets quarterbacks, and well likely know the winner of the battle by the start of the preseason. In any case, no matter who ends up winning this battle for the starting job, its not going to be a pretty sight for Jets fans this season.
My projected winner: Mark Sanchez
