NFL Week 1 Review - 8 Points & Plays Everyone Is Talking About
4. An 88 Point Game
Totally opposite to what was expected, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints was a brilliant feat to watch. Firstly, the Buccs managed to cause one of the biggest upsets of the week, and secondly, there were a total of 88 points – that appears to be more than some teams will get all season (Sorry Bills).
The Saints were a shoe in for the win against a regressed and confused quarterback-less team. Jameis Winston is serving a three game ban and Ryan Fitzpatrick was asked to step up – and step up he did. Little did the world of NFL imagine that he would throw four touchdowns and run an extra one in himself, leading to near a half century of points.
Not only did Ryan Fitzpatrick prove he is a solid back up, but has posed the question if he should be the starter past Winston’s ban. If he can keep the same level of performance up, Fitzpatrick should be expected to hold onto the starting job.
Drew Brees and the Saints on the other hand scored 40 points, which is somewhat expected of such a high calibre player and team. Normally 40 points would pretty much guarantee a win, but both teams saw an explosion in defence, leading to one of the best offensive shootouts in recent memory.
Games like this really make the NFL worth watching and proves it can shock and twist even in the most unexpected ways.
