Olympics 2012: What Happened When The Games Ended

5. Athletes Village

More than 10,000 athletes from 204 National Olympic Committees took part in the twenty six sports at the Olympics, and of course, they had to stay somewhere. That's where the Athletes Village came in. Located in the Olympic Park, within walking distance of all the sporting venues, the village - complete with shops, restaurants and top of the range medical, media and leisure facilities - housed residential apartments for around 17,000 athletes during the Games. What Next? Now that the Games are over, the Olympic Village will eventually provide essential new housing for east London and will be transformed into 2,818 new homes, creating a new residential quarter to be known as 'East Village'.
