Aston Villa managed to realize their target of Premier League survival in the most dramatic of fashions as they clung to 17th on the very last day of the season. More was expected of a Villa side who invested heavily in the summer but it's fair to say that many of those signings have not quite worked out. Most notably Villa have been dangerously short of goals.
Big money striker Wesley was not exactly setting the world alight before his unfortunate injury and Mbwana Samatta is a grafter up front but not exactly a prolific marksman either. Brentford's heartache may present an opportunity for Villa to pick up their exciting young front man Ollie Watkins.
Watkins is a quick, clever goalscorer who likes to drop deep to get involved in the play while still managing to pop up in the right areas when chances appear. He is unproven but appears to undoubtedly have the talent to make the step up. Villa's strikers have been on a season long goal drought and Watkins could finally be the tonic for their woes up front.
