Premier League: 5 Biggest Talking Points From Last Weekend's Games

1. The Title Race Is Definitely Over Now, Right?

It€™s so very close; it€™s almost all over in this year€™s league title race. 15 points is a crazily large gap for the league leaders to have at this stage of a season. No team in English league football history has ever blown such a big lead at the top with so few games to go. Yet after last year€™s mind bending heroics from City to come back from the brink and sneak the title out from under their neighbour€™s possession meaning people are still refusing to totally call this race over. True a few bookies have already paid out but last year€™s comeback from City still lingers in the mind so it€™s almost over and we stress it€™s very close but not quite yet done. Man Utd to lose the title would have to lose at least 5 of their last 9 games which is more than half and losing 5 games at all in one season for Man Utd in Premier League history is unlikely so for it to happen in the last 9 games borders on impossible. Also Man City would have to win more games than Man Und if they started losing and that is even more unlikely and impossible to see than Und losing 5 games. It€™s a little sad we won€™t get a dramatic finish like last year€™s 95th minute winner but there are reasons behind it. First Man Utd has Robin Van Persie banging in goals for them, he€™s the type of proven goalscorer that you sense Mancini would kill for about now. They have recovered well from the injustice of losing a title with pretty much the last kick of the season which must feel horrible finishing your season top of the table and still not winning the trophy. Man Utd have been much better with fitness too Rio Ferdinand played more games than he has in years, their normally unstable midfield held together better than most thought and with RVP are Rooney, Welbeck and Hernández a front 4 that are easily the strongest collection of forwards in the league. Sir Alex deserves a massive amount of credit for keeping the team together and making them stronger true it€™s not a vintage Man Und team but they have got the job done delivered a staggering 20th league crown back to Old Trafford. Manchester City is just not as good as last year missing out on the goals that are coming freely to the red side of Manchester this year. The new summer signings have not worked ranging from the crap to the constantly injured and the one that just sits on the bench thinking of his hot girlfriend . The main problem however is too many of last year€™s star players just have not performed this year. From the stuttering strikers to the loss of form from Silva and Yaya Toure and the confusing back three system which has worked about as well as dating Taylor Swift . Their lack of goals has really cost them and now Mancini will be under intense pressure next season not just to buy right in the transfer window but to put up much better showing in the league and in Europe. However the title is still there for winning no matter how near impossible it is after the miracle job pulled off last season Mancini would be the luckiest thing in creation if he pulled off the trick again. So those are this week€™s big important from a massive weekend of football and this issues are sure to run for a while as the Premier League takes an enforced break for internationals. Be sure to comment below about these talking points whenever you agree or disagree.

Ian Newby is a average nerd living in the north of England, if given the chance he would spend all his life sat watching every single football match he possibly could before catching up on nerd happy TV shows then playing videos games all night, thankfully he doesn’t do that.
