Premier League: Do Top 7 Teams Need To Strengthen In January?

1. Manchester City

City arguably have the strongest squad in the league right now, but just like Chelsea they could field two sides to compete for the title. It may be even a smarter move to not get involved in the market and focus on securing a lead at the top of the table. Their away form has been their concern and rectifying that once and for all should be priority, and there's no doubt they already have the quality to make that happen. One position that could be bolstered is centre back. The cover they brought in the form of Martin Demichelis seems inadequate so far, though it would be no problem if their first choice were fit for all the key games but he's had to be drafted in on a couple of occasions and doesn't seem to be up to City's standard. At least not any more as he's been diving into tackles and getting exposed for pace. Joleon Lescott also doesn't seem to fit the bill for Manuel Pellegrini and at his age is unlikely to get any better, with rumours that he may be available for loan too. Kurt Zouma of St Etienne is only young but has a solid build and won't be a pushover in the league, and his youth would make him a good option for long investment. A more accomplished option would be Sergio Ramos given that there are murmurings of discontent with the amount of times he has lost his cool and been sent off. He is one of the best defenders in the world so a transfer in January is unlikely to materialise but it is a situation that City can continue to monitor the situation. Do you think the current top 7 in the Premier League need to make moves in the transfer market? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
