4. Steven Caulker - Tottenham Hotspur To Cardiff City
Caulker, a product of the Tottenham Hotspur Academy, made 18 league appearances for Spurs and earned his first call up to the England senior squad against Sweden last season. The 21-year-old rose through the ranks at White Hart Lane via loan spells with Yeovil Town, Bristol City and Swansea City before finally breaking into the first-team under Andre Villas-Boas. Despite his elevated prominence, the young centre back signed with newly-promoted
Cardiff City for a club record fee of £8.5 million on 31 July. He revealed his motive behind the surprising move was his desire to feature for England in the World Cup next year:
"This is a move, I believe, that will aid my England hopes. Yes, I'll have to work hard on the training pitch to get into the team," Caulker told walesonline. "But I'd like to think I can achieve that, and once I am in there then I plan to hold down that position and work as hard as I can to get that England goal. To be in the squad for the World Cup would be a fantastic achievement."
