This was McGregor's most complete performance in the octagon.

Admittedly, Alvarez did nothing well on this night, attempting only one takedown and having no success on his feet, but the credit must go to Conor. Alvarez was feinting constantly early, to try and confuse Conor, but the first time he came forward with a combo, McGregor knocked him down on the counter with the trademark left hand. Abandoning technique and swinging wildly after the first knockdown, Alvarez played straight into McGregor's hands, walking straight into another knockdown after a sloppy overhand.

McGregor cut off the octagon and pressured a static Alvarez from there on out, frustrating Alvarez with body kicks. Late in the second round, McGregor taunted Eddie by putting his hands behind his back in the most brazen act of showmanship we've ever seen from the bombastic Irishman.

Shortly thereafter, Alvarez came forward with a right hand that missed, and McGregor smoked him with a four punch combination. The counter left hook started it, the right hook finished it as Alvarez was already on his way down. Alvarez was a demolished heap on the ground after eight minutes of torture.

It will remain to be seen if we ever see him back in the UFC, but if this was his last fight, the last image we saw in the octagon was Conor McGregor triumphantly parading around Madison Square Garden with a belt on either shoulder.

Not a bad way to go out, if this is indeed it.
