One of the features of the build up to a Conor McGregor fight was a portion of the fans, who clearly resented McGregor's push, predicting that "this will be the fight that exposes Conor for what he really is." While at times it felt like people were just reaching to discredit McGregor, this fight was, on paper at least, a potential nightmare for Conor. Aldo was a master of frustrating his opponent's dynamic offence and then pouncing on them when their technique went out the window.

While a good number of people believed McGregor could and would win this fight, almost no-one ruled out the possibility that Aldo would vanquish his foe with ease. Perhaps a late finish or a lop-sided decision in favour of the Brazilian. You just couldn't rule out Aldo's greatness against anyone.

In the end, this fight delivered of the most shocking finishes in UFC history. Aldo came forward with an early combination. McGregor slipped out while landing a flush counter left hand down the middle. Aldo collapsed forward like a tree. Video recorded backstage in the dressing room appeared to show McGregor warming up for the very same counter shot he'd face plant Aldo with.

13 seconds was all it took, and McGregor became the undisputed Featherweight champion of the world in the shortest title fight in UFC history.
