Roberto Baggio At 50: 10 Perfect Goals

4. JUVENTUS Vs. Lazio (Serie A, 1993/94)

Alessandro Del Piero fondly exulted that only two footballers had made him cry with their beauty: Ryan Giggs and Roberto Baggio. Given Alé's own wondrous genius, it's some testimony, but then, Baggio was almost unethically gifted.

If Baggio had the ability to make Del Piero cry, his teenage self must have been hysterically howling as he watched his team-mate humiliate the Sergio Cragnotti-fuelled Lazio in 1994. It was an echo from the past as Il Divin Codino conjured the same majestic dexterity which had dumbfounded Czechoslovakian defences four years earlier, floating past the entire team before calmly slotting home.

Baggio's dribbling was so good it didn't seem fair, so opponents increasingly resorted to foul means to prevent it, maiming him in the process. The constant injuries were a testament to Roby's immense ability on the ball; the only way to stop those luxurious legs was to remove them.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
