Southampton News: 5 Reasons Why Sacking Nigel Adkins Is A Mistake

3. He Gained Consecutive Promotions

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXfyL36fbPA During his 28-month reign, Nigel Adkins took Southampton from the depths of League One football and up 51 places with back-to-back promotions to fifteenth in the Premier League, guaranteeing the club £90 million over five year's even if they get relegated this season, due to TV rights and parachute payments. That's not bad at all for a side who have suffered two relegation's and administration throughout their history. It is incredibly cruel to axe a man with those accomplishments to his name. He should have been given the opportunity to finish the job he started when he was appointed manager in 2010, by keeping the Saints in the Premier League. Considering his heroic feats in dramatically reversing the club's fortunes, there is every chance he could have accomplished that. Source(s): The Sun
