Regardless of form, league position or how many hat-tricks Jeremain Lens has hammered past Premier League goalkeepers, somebody, somewhere, in a desolate ruin, will take to his Twitter account to demand that Mr Advocaat should be relieved of his duties - albeit probably in far less polite terms. It's now an expected part of being a manager, but let's face it, if Dick Advocaat can't do a half-decent job with Sunderland, then there's a very good chance no other manager we could attract could do any better. Unless we're bottom of the league every week between now and March with Advocaat dropkicking a fan in the stands, the man has to stay. Give him time, give him patience, give him support, and to Mr Ellis Short, give him money. If he's got those things, he could be a great success.
