Sunderland's Greatest Ever Premier League XI

11. ATT - Darren Bent

Okay, it's controversy time. Like it or not, Darren Bent was a sensational striker for Sunderland, the best since Phillips - comfortably. Most of his goals came from inside the area, but the important part is that they were actual goals and there was plenty of them. He was revered like none other at the time, bagging 24 league goals in a season, a tally which seems beyond comprehension right now for Sunderland. Unfortunately he made a stupid decision in leaving for a colossal sideways step to Villa, a choice that he must surely regret. But if you can see through his bitter exit, you'll remember the feeling of watching him score virtually every week. I know I shouldn't like him anymore, and I'm more than happy to see him live out his career in the Championship from now on, but it's impossible not to hold a bit of fondness for him after remembering that season and how devastating he actually was. Of course people are going to disagree with that team, that's what opinions are for. Let us know your XI in the comments below.
