Let us all bow before the basketball gods and give praise to them for blessing us with another season of the unrestrained id that is Nick "Swaggy P" Young. The Lakers' small forward may not be living up to his initial promise, talent-wise, but he is so endlessly entertaining (to non-Lakers-fans) that it's hard to be mad at him. There are few things more fun to watch than a man cheerfully and consistently overestimating his own talents and Young gives generously in this field. Between his fondness for chucking up contested 3s and his Instagram-friendly relationship with fiancee Iggy Azalea, there will be so much glorious Swaggy this season. If only the rest of the Lakers looked good enough to cover for Young's DGAF attitude to efficiency. They've got an exciting new lottery pick in D'Angelo Russell but...come on, guys. No one is shining in the Staples Center until Kobe steps down and lets other players actually develop. Stories continue to flow out of LA that superstar free agents won't consider moving there until Bryant retires and that the front office is completely unwilling (or unable) to influence his timeline. So we have at least one more year of the 5-time champ throwing tantrums on the court and then tweeting sassily about his rings. What a beautiful mess.
