UFC: 10 Biggest Prospects

1. Khabib Nurmagomedov

Khabib Nurmagomedov has been massively impressive since getting the call-up to the UFC. He now matches Renan Barao's record for biggest overall win streak (20) and has yet to suffer a defeat. Some suspected that the Russian would not mark his territory in the way that he has due to the difference in opposition he now faces; many felt that his record was padded with victories over lesser opponents. Boy, were they wrong. At just 24 years young and 4-0 in the UFC, Nurmagomedov has now garnered top-10 status by the UFC's official rankings. He has faced tough opposition since joining the company, finishing both Thiago Tavares and Kamal Shalorus and decisioning Gleison Tibau and Abel Trujillo. Not only were the four victories impressive, the fact that all four had momentum and hype of their own makes it quite incredible. His latest performance against Trujillo was as lopsided of a decision as they come, using his overwhelming Sambo and Judo to get takedown after takedown on the American and ultimately getting a clear decision. Nurmagomedov holds a black belt in Judo and holds two Sambo world championships. His striking is also very impressive, as noted in his win over Tavares. In fact, the Russian lightweight has few holes in his game and he is worryingly accomplished for his age; by the age of 30, who knows what he can achieve. 20-0 as a professional, numerous accolades and just 24 years old makes him an easy choice for number 1. If Khabib can notch up a win over a fellow top-10 fighter, a number 1 contender fight may be on the radar. Therefore I'd like to see him face a named fighter who is either ranked, previously ranked or on the cusp of being top-10. A bout with Donald Cerrone would be entertaining to say the least and would pose a number of questions regarding Khabib's ground game, striking et al, or should the UFC want to solidify Khabib's top-10 status then Josh Thomson would be a tough test. However, I'd opt for a fight with Jim Miller as he technically lost his last fight but is still amongst the elite at 155. Preferred next fight: Jim Miller
