For fans who are relatively new to the sport, you're probably most familiar with Urijah Faber as the guy who chokes in title matches and gets owned by Dominick Cruz, which is unfortunate because he's one of the most influential figures in MMA history.

When he announced his retirement, his legions of supporters were disappointed, as Faber has consistently remained one of the most popular guys in the game. It hasn't always translated well into buys, but his fanbase is extremely loyal and he's done well building a brand for himself and his team.

For his final fight he was booked against fellow veteran Brad Pickett, another fighter who is in the latter stages of his career. Pickett is at a desperate point in his run, but he deserves credit for all he's done in the cage as well. Still, Faber is the real story here. He's a legend in California, and it was his dream to have his final fight in Sacramento.

Urijah has always been a great ambassador and representative of the sport; a classy individual who was never involved in any controversy and gave his all every time he stepped inside the octagon. He went out with a victory and received a hero's send-off from the crowd in attendance.

Faber is a guaranteed Hall of Famer for all he's accomplished inside the cage as well as how he paved the way and helped to pioneer and popularize the lighter weight classes.

Thanks for the memories. We'll miss 'The California Kid'.
