West Ham: 10 Reasons Andy Carroll Has Been A Waste Of Money

9. He Lacks Work-Rate

Being that Carroll is more of a target man, you would not expect him to be the most nimble or mobile player to ever set foot on the pitch, but the least you could ask him to do is run about and make his presence known to defenders by running in behind them and helping out his midfield in the process. However, this is not something you tend to get with big Andy. His lack of movement at the top of the pitch means that it is difficult for his team to try and pull apart a defence, but then just end up launching a long ball up to him and hope it sticks long enough for midfield runners to help him out. Carroll's teams are often wasted trying to play through balls into channels in and around the penalty area because he just simply will not chase them down, which frustrates fans immensely, West Ham fans in particular who are a hard bunch to please at the best of times. If you are not scoring goals, which will be touched on later, then fans really want you to work hard for the benefit of the team, chasing the lost causes and putting yourself about, but Carroll's tendency is not to do that and therefore can become an extremely frustrating figure to watch for a supporter.
