Wimbledon 2014: 8 Contenders Who Could Win It

5. Thomas Berdych

Wimbledon Track Record: Made the 2010 Wimbledon Final losing to Rafael Nadal. Tends to make the 4th round and quarterfiinal stage and has a Wimbledon winning percentage of 71.88%. Grass Court Game: The big hitting big serving Berdych has the fire power to blast anyone off a grass court. It is not surprising that grass is one of Berdych's favourite surfaces, as it rewards his flatly hit groundstrokes. Anyone who faces a confident Berdych particularly at Wimbledon must recognise that they are in for a very tough match. If the courts are lush and the ball plays low then Berdych can hit through his opponents without being dragged into longer rallies. However if the courts dry out and become patchy with exposed mud, then the ball will not bite on the court and skid through the surface thus allowing Berdych's opponents to begin to expose his only and very mild weakness in his movement. Current Form: Berdych has been playing solidly all year often posting semi final and final results in the tournaments in which he has elected to play. Despite losing to Lopez in a touch match at Queens, he will head into Wimbledon having won a lot of matches that will give him the confidence that is essential in order for him to play offensively on grass. Wimbledon '14 Prediction: Quarter Final While Berdych enters this year's Wimbledon as a sleeping giant who could quite easily wake up and bludgeon his opponents into submission en route to the title, his overall grandslam record shouts consistent loser rather than potential champion. In order for Berdych to better his 2011 Wimbledon campaign, he must surely have to sharpen his game and beat more accomplished players or rely on upsets to clear his way to the championship.
