Wimbledon 2014: 8 Contenders Who Could Win It

6. Grigor Dimitrov

Wimbledon Track Record: Grigor Dimitrov has never progressed further than the 2nd round at Wimbledon. Grass Court Game: Grigor Dimitrov is one of the most talented all court players on the tour. His style is evidently inspired by the court craft and artistry of Roger Federer. From his elegant single handed backhand, deft touch and awesome court coverage it is perhaps self evident why Dimitrov has long been nicknamed 'Baby Fed.' However it would be absurd to assume that Dimitrov is a carbon copy of the greatest grass court player of modern time. He has problems with consistency and shot selection that could prove to be his undoing on a grass court. However if he is able to successfully implement his all court game on a grass court, there is no reason why he cannot dominate the lawns of SW19 in the same manner as The Swiss Maestro. Current Form: Similar to Raonic, Dimitrov is consistently improving, posting some significant results in 2014 thus far. Despite being bundled out of The French Open in the 1st round, he has won three titles on three different surfaces the most recent and significant being his victory over Feliciano Lopez in the final of the Wimbledon warm up event at Queens. This signals that Dimitrov is currently riding a wave of confidence in his ability to play well on grass and is no doubt eager to equal his quarterfinal appearance at The Australian Open at Wimbledon. Wimbledon '14 Prediction: Quarter Final A confident Dimitrov is a dangerous Dimitrov particularly if he plays with a relaxed aggression that he recently displayed en-route to winning Queens. However while he has the skills to outsmart and outplay the majority of the draw, he is relatively green when it comes to navigating his way into the latter stages of a grandslam. Equally there are more experienced grass court players who could derail his Wimbledon campaign the deeper he gets into the tournament. Players like Jo Wilfred Tsonga, Janko Tipsarevic and David Ferrer could draw on their grandslam and grass court experience to tough out and win a match with the Bulgarian. Overall a quarterfinal appearance is likely for Dimitrov in his current form, but again he is a skilled player who could quite easily play his way to the first Sunday of July.
