19 Things We Learned From Steve McClaren's BBC Radio Newcastle Interview

11. No Promises Over Further Incomings

The biggest quote of the night is sure to be horrible reading for every Newcastle United fan...
"We're always searching. You get to this stage in the window and we've kind of done our business and the club, even before I came, with Graham Carr and Lee have been searching for the past six months to a year on bringing players in. "And when you're looking in the market we're looking in, and you're looking at £10 million-plus players, they're harder to get. There's more competition, competitions from bigger clubs, bigger clubs that are in the Champions League - and that's what players of this magnitude and cost want to be playing in. "For us to get them three players in is tremendous business. Will there be more? Always on the lookout and always open to that, as I know the board are."
Newcastle United won't be signing anyone else this transfer window... As you were! However, Steve, who was chatting with Marco Gabbiadini about exciting players, said:
"I look at teams and when they've got a good front four, an exciting front four, a different front four, that's what we're looking for. And in that front four you need special players, and we're trying to find them."
He certainly doesn't have those at the moment - so the club must be looking endlessly for new incomings. Let's hope so! He also touched on the fact that a lot of his first-team squad - the likes of Remy Cabella, Paul Dummett, Emmanuel Riviere and Slyvain Marveaux - haven't been assessed yet and will have the opportunity to prove themselves. Steve did say the club will always looking for that deal which will suit them. But he was always going to, wasn't he?
