19 Things We Learned From Steve McClaren's BBC Radio Newcastle Interview
16. Steve Danced Around The Issue Of Domestic Cup Competitions
McClaren was then asked if he would be happy with winning either of the domestic cups. After immediately answering "absolutely", and detailing his career history in both English and Dutch domestic competitions, he said:
"I've always been of the thinking that whenever I've got a team, one, I want to win every game, and I think I can. And two, cups are absolutely magnificent and winning one was the highlight of my career, visiting Cardiff (the Millennium Stadium) with Middlesbrough. "But it's an absolutely unbelievable feeling. A trip to Wembley, in whatever cup competition, be it a semi-final or a final, is absolutely magnificent for the fans so we want that."
He danced around the question so much that we have no idea what the club's stance on the cups are - we refuse to read too much into that last little bit. McClaren would have been far better off giving a straight answer one way or the other here.
