10 Greatest Star Trek Moments In 2023

2. Hanger 12

How can there be anything else at the highest point in this list other than the return of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D? What could possiblby be #1?

In some respects this has become a more iconic starship than the original Constitution Class with the reveal of Hangar 12’s contents at the end of Vōx marking the biggest instance of nostalgia and fan service that Star Trek has ever attempted.

It would only get better with the crew walking onto the fully reconstructed bridge of the Galaxy Class starship and taking their familiar positions one final time in a send off that was truly worthy of this crew's legacy. Documenting the Enterprise-D at her most versatile, the finale of three seasons of Picard ensured there was a tear in the eye of every Star Trek fan as the former flagship proved to be the saviour of the hour even if Geordi had to borrow the secondary hull and nacelles from the USS Syracuse.

Knowing that the saucer was recovered from Veridian III and lovingly restored by her former Chief Engineer was just another little element that ensured every fan was holding back emotions in a way that would make a Vulcan proud. To ultimately see her docked at the Fleet Muesum cemented the legend and made sure that history would absolutely, without question, never forget the name Enterprise. No, I'm not crying, I just have some dilithium in my eye...

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
