10 Star Trek Characters Who Didn't Deserve Their Fate
8. Durst
The little-known Zombie series about, ahem, Walkers taught audiences a valuable lesson. If a character is introduced and given a number of lines mid-way through a season, then you can almost see the countdown clock appearing over their heads. Time and time again, we learned what these characters' voices sounded like, only to then hear their screams as they were torn to shreds mere episodes later.
So is true of Peter Durst, the poor crewman played by Brian Markinson in the episodes Cathexis and Faces. Though Markinson knew his character's fate was written, it was still very upsetting for the audiences who enjoyed his turn in gold. He also has the dubious honour of being the first crewmember to die after Voyager's arrival in the Delta Quadrant.
He doesn't simply die, either. Oh no, this poor sod has his face removed and grafted onto his captor, the mad Vidiian doctor Sulan. This was not simply for the man's continued survival, as is the grim fate of many other Vidiians, but rather as part of an ill-fated attempt to make Torres fall in love with him.
Hard pass, sir. Hard pass.
