10 Star Trek Characters Who Died Off-Screen

9. Gabriel Lorca

Season one of Discovery promised a captain who was going to be very different to any that fans had previously experienced. It's safe to say that the writers didn't slack there.

Gabriel Lorca was a cutting and cold captain, far moreso than Star Trek had ever portrayed in the centre seat, Edward Jellico notwithstanding.

The Mirror Universe reveal was a big swing for the show and in this case it certainly made contact. After teasing the audience for the first half of the season as to his true identity, they were then left with a single question:

Where's Prime Lorca?

The on-screen answer was that he was killed when the USS Buran was destroyed. However, remember that addage: no body, no death.

There's never been confirmation that Lorca was onboard at the time or that his remains were found. There have been repeated calls from the fanbase to reveal what exactly did happen to Prime Lorca and if he is indeed still out there, somewhere. With the 1000 year shift and soft reboot of Discovery for its third season that may well be one question that is never answered.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
