10 Star Trek Toys That We Loved

3. Star Trek Model Ships By Eaglemoss

If, like Captain Picard, you've got 'angry Moby-Dick hands' and hence prefer your models pre-made, you've probably been more of a fan of Eaglemoss than you have of the DIY AMT. Whilst a lot of us have at least a few of their models, there are those who have an entire room — a shrine, if you will, by and for the 'cool kids' — to house their ginormous collection.

A relative newcomer to the Trek 'toy' game, Eaglemoss' Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection only debuted proper in 2013. The British fortnightly magazine with display model quickly became a global fan-favourite thanks to the exquisite level of detail and craftsmanship of each of the hand-painted die-cast miniatures, and the diversity of ships (stations and more) on offer — from the USS Antares NCC-501 (from Charlie X) and NCC-9844 (a Miranda-class from Favor the Bold), to the USS Yeager (Saber-class seen in Star Trek: First Contact) and the Captains' Yachts, through the bonus Friendship 1, and everything and all the classics in-between.

Not only that, but Eaglemoss/Hero Collector also produced XL Starship editions, Dedication Plaques, the Star Trek: Shipyards: The Encyclopedia of Star Trek Ships book series, comic books, illustrated handbooks, and more. Of course, so good were their miniatures, they made it to screen on several occasions — Château Picard's Promellian battle cruiser in a bottle and "the fat one" at 10 Forward Avenue in Star Trek: Picard, for example.

It's almost a euphemism to say that there was many a sad Trekkie when this beloved company filed for bankruptcy in 2022. We need not despair entirely, however, because Master Replicas — that other giant of slightly pricier Trek collectibles — have purchased, and are selling, the remaining Eaglemoss stock.

Jack Kiely is a writer with a PhD in French and almost certainly an unhealthy obsession with Star Trek.
