10 Worst Star Trek Moments In 2023

2. Ro-ed Away

Star Trek Worst Moments
Paramount

Reformed officer, Starfleet tactical graduate, Maquis survivor, Starfleet traitor, Kira Nerys template. These are just some of the accolades linked to Commander Ro Laren.

Making a jaw-dropping return in Picard's magnificent third season episode Imposters, Michelle Forbes popped by the Titan with more agendas than a political party conference.

Now with Starfleet Intelligence, Ro dishes the dirt to Picard while having to balance reining in the errant admiral. However, the danger of the Changeling threat is all too clear by the episode's end.

Ro's part in the Picard saga is bittersweet. Her scene with Jean-Luc perfectly encapsulates the years of torment both have suffered following her decision to join the Maquis in Pre-emptive Strike. Fans simply craved more of the Forbes/Stewart dynamic that sparked so vibrantly on screen. Could this be the start of something new?

SPOILERS AHEAD.

The decision to kill Ro off was, in hindsight, probably always going to happen. Michelle Forbes was reportedly only available for a very short block of filming. There exists a version of The Last Generation that would have revealed her alive and relatively well in the brig of the Intrepid, but alas, as it stands, that is not to be.

Gone, but never forgotten, Ro Laren was an easy character to root for, making the ending of Imposters a truly depressing moment in the year.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
