Star Trek: 10 Characters That Faked Their Way Into Starfleet

6. On Multiple Counts Of Impersonating A Starfleet Officer: The Q

Okay, so this is a little different, but still technically correct (the best kind of correct, as we know from Futurama). The Q, in their multiple guises, could often be seen sporting a Starfleet uniform, ranking themselves at captain or above. Really, even Fleet Admiral's a downgrade from exemplary 'Q-ness'.

If members of the species are truly omniscient, and if such a thing is truly possible, then knowing everything means having the experience of every single Starfleet cadet and officer who has ever and will ever exist down to the very last quantum fluctuation in that cup of coffee cadet Janeway had in pick-a-point-in-space-and-time. That probably deserves a captaincy without the paperwork, or at least a fast-track through the Academy. That, for Starfleet, might also be a technicality too far!

It's not like anyone could stop a Q from showing up in whatever Starfleet get-up they desired. Most of the time, the impersonation was more of a 'behold my mighty omnipotence' than any actual attempt at officer role-play. That said, it was a surprise, however temporary, for Lieutenant Torres when she beamed aboard a comet fragment that turned out to be a Starfleet Captain, aka Q(uinn).

No doubt Q's fullest Starfleet fakery was when he simply hid outside the Ganges on Deep Space 9. Of course, when Q was made human in Déjà Q, there wasn't so much as a well-placed combadge in sight! When his son suffered a similar condemned-to-be-human fate in Q2, he was pretty quickly divested of the rank pips. 'Miss Q' got to keep hers for a while, though!
